Peptides Aren’t Magic... And I Say That as SomeoneWho Prescribes Them
By: Talia Sessel, APRN, FNP-C
Why the newest treatment is rarely the whole answer, and what a real optimization strategy
actually looks like.
Peptides get a lot of hype right now. And to be clear — I prescribe them, and I believe in
their value. But one thing the wellness industry consistently gets wrong is convincing people
that the newest peptide, supplement, or medication is going to fix everything.
It’s not. And it never is.
What We Actually Do Before Adding Anything
If you’re exhausted, losing hair, struggling with your weight, or just don’t feel like yourself,
the first goal isn’t to add a treatment it’s to understand why you feel that way in the first
place.
That means looking at the full picture before reaching for a prescription pad:
Your labs
Your sleep
Your nutrition
Your hormones
Your medical history
All of it matters. Peptides are an incredible tool, but they’re a tool, not the whole toolbox.
The goal was never to put patients on more things. It’s to figure out what actually makes
sense for your body.
Already Have Labs? You Don’t Have to Start Over
A lot of patients come to us with recent labs from a primary care visit, but no one ever really
walked them through what those numbers mean beyond “everything’s in normal range.”
That’s why we now offer a one-time Lab Optimization Review. You bring in labs you already have, and we spend 20 minutes going through them together, not through a
“normal vs. abnormal” lens, but through a functional, optimization-focused lens. The goal is
to identify the small, specific tweaks that could help you feel your best, based on your
numbers, not a generic protocol.
It’s not about throwing the kitchen sink at the problem. It’s about finding what works
specifically for you.
The Bottom Line
Treatments, peptides included, work best as part of a strategy, not as a substitute for
one. If you’ve been chasing the next protocol without ever getting a clear answer on the
why, that’s usually the better place to start.
Have labs sitting in a portal somewhere with no explanation attached? Book a Lab
Optimization Review and let’s actually go through them.
